About the museum

The car and clock museum ErfinderZeiten opened in Schramberg in March 2010. It is housed in the business park of the former Hamburg-Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik (H.A.U.), founded in 1875, which around 1900 was among the city's major clock manufacturers. The listed factory building H.A.U. 3/5 was designed by industrial architect Philipp Jakob Manz; the exhibition spreads across about 3,500 square meters and five levels.

The core consists of vehicles and clocks from the collection of entrepreneur Martin Sauter, previously shown in Engstingen and available to the museum on loan. The tour and the floors follow chronology: at the very top it is about clockmaking in the Black Forest – from early wooden clocks and cuckoo clocks to Junghans and the H.A.U. – below that the postwar years, the years of reconstruction and the economic miracle with small cars, scooters, motorcycles and recreated everyday scenes.

On the ground floor, special pieces of the collection are gathered, including cars by Borgward, American cruisers and Wankel vehicles by NSU. The museum is part of the Auto- und Uhrenwelt of the city of Schramberg; admission includes the neighboring Diesel Museum with a 1911 MAN large diesel engine and a recreated H.A.U. photo studio. The museum is supported by the Förderverein Technikmuseen e.V.
