Opening hoursFree admission

About the museum

In 2001 and 2002, the largest linear pottery (Linearbandkeramik) settlement in northern Bavaria was excavated on the edge of the village of Buchbrunn. It documents habitation between 5200 and 4900 BC, in the early Neolithic period.

Some of the finds are now on display in a permanent exhibition in the town hall. Panels next to the display cases and a short film about life in the Stone Age explain the objects; at the excavation site, a memorial plaque commemorates the settlement. The exhibition is run by the association Geschichte in Buchbrunn e.V.

On the grounds of the Verbandsschule stands a true-to-scale replica of a linear pottery longhouse with an activity area. Since spring 2008 the association has offered education programs there, mainly for children aged 8 to 12: they make leather pouches or shell jewelry, drill with wooden drills, grind grain, bake bread dough on sticks, or put on Stone Age face paint. Every three years a Stone Age Day takes place at the longhouse for everyone interested.
