About the museum
The museum is housed in the Faltertor, one of the two surviving town gates of the almost completely preserved Dettelbach town wall. The gate is more than 470 years old. The town, the initiator Günter Pfrang, and the Kolping family made it available over the long term for a museum that links Kolping, crafts, and the church.
In the Kolping room, the exhibits tell of the founding of the Kolping family in Dettelbach in 1857 and of its work. On the upper floor the museum shows tools and equipment of the trades that were particularly typical of Dettelbach: Lebzelter (honey-cake makers) and Wachszieher (candle makers), winegrowers and coopers, carpenters, blacksmiths, saddlers and upholsterers, tailors, shoemakers, bath attendants, Main River fishermen, pharmacists, and farmers. A fully furnished shoemaker's workshop is part of the display.
The Kolping family looks after the museum. From the gate there is also a panoramic view over the roofs and towers of the town.
