About the museum
The Feuerwehrmuseum Bayern was founded in 2012 in Waldkraiburg, about 60 kilometers east of Munich. Across roughly 4,500 square meters of hall space, it presents more than 150 years of Bavarian fire brigade history. On display are over 100 vehicles and around 5,000 small exhibits, from leather fire buckets and 19th-century uniforms to modern LED emergency lights and digital radio.
The museum sees itself as an "activity museum" (Aktivmuseum) for young and old: much of it can be touched and experienced, and the exhibition is designed for families with children as well as for experts. After the pandemic years, the exhibition was redesigned. In 2021, craftsmen repaired storm damage to the roof on a voluntary basis.
The museum is run by the non-profit association Feuerwehrmuseum Bayern e.V., which operates it entirely on a volunteer basis. The 2026 season is the 14th in a row. Offerings include a digital audio guide with QR codes and a digital scavenger hunt for children.
