About the museum
The hammer forge in the Maximilian district of Kraiburg was built in 1889 and remained in operation until 1985. It was then carefully restored so that its historic substance is preserved. Today the Kulturkreis Kraiburg e.V. looks after this industrial monument as a project.
The centerpiece is the fully preserved drive system: two overshot water wheels power all the machines through a transmission, including a double forge hearth (Esse), a large drop hammer, and other tools. This still allows visitors to see how a forge worked on water power today.
On the upper floor is a small museum documenting the family history of the former owners and their working life.
