The exhibition of the Museen Schloss Aschach sheds light on traditional textile work in everyday life, from the spinning bee and needlework lessons to sewing in times of hardship and today's crafts.
Salon exhibition of the Museen Schloss Aschach: around seventy ships in bottles and other miniatures in bottles by model maker Matthias Schultz, supplemented by objects from the museums' own collections.
About the museum
In 1874, Friedrich Graf von Luxburg, then Regierungspräsident (regional governor) of Lower Franconia, bought Aschach Castle together with his wife Luise and converted it into a summer residence for the family. After Luise's death in 1929, their son Karl, a diplomat, took over the property with his wife Carola. In 1955 the couple gave it to the Bezirk Unterfranken (administrative district of Lower Franconia), which opened the museum in 1957. Countess Carola von Luxburg used four rooms on the middle floor every summer until her death in 1968.
In the Graf-Luxburg-Museum, visitors walk through the family's former living rooms and the work areas of the household staff, getting a sense of aristocratic daily life from the late 19th to the 20th century. Media, listening and hands-on stations invite visitors to rediscover the rooms; the redesign was accompanied by an inclusion reference group.
Two collections shape the museum. Friedrich Graf von Luxburg assembled European art, including panel paintings from the Gothic and Renaissance periods and, as its highlight, a Judith by Lucas Cranach the Elder. His son Karl brought porcelain, bronzes, carved lacquer and stoneware from China. The museum belongs to the Museen Schloss Aschach, which also includes a folk culture museum and a school museum.
