About the museum
The Information Center of Münsterschwarzach Abbey opened in 2016 to mark the 1,200th anniversary of the monastery. It took over the role of the abbey's former mission museum, which had displayed mementos from the monks' mission areas.
The exhibition is in the gatehouse on Schweinfurter Straße, right next to the abbey church. Visitors can learn about the monastery's history, Benedictine monasticism and the present-day rhythm of prayer and work through interactive stations. The gatehouse is staffed every day by monks who answer questions about the abbey and arrange guided tours.
