About the museum

The foundation was laid by the collector Horst Rivier, who called himself the "Berlin Kolbermoorer". He gathered objects on local history and at first displayed them in a basement room of a kindergarten. In October 1998 he was able to open the Local History and Industry Museum in the former post office on Bahnhofstraße; it is now run by a support association.

The ground floor deals with the origins of Kolbermoor and with bog and peat – from animals in the bog to peat cutting; in the pavilion there are working machines, a peat hut, two bog oaks and roof tiles from the local clay works.

The upper floor is devoted to industrial history: two rooms show how raw cotton was processed into yarn in the Kolbermoor spinning mill and the mill's social facilities, while further areas cover the hosiery factory, the Conradty works and other companies. Also on display are a memorial exhibition on King Ludwig II with his death mask, a cobbler's workshop and, under the roof, a workers' living room of the 1920s.
