About the museum
The museum is in a small farmer's and weaver's house from 1781 on Brüdener Straße in Unterweissach. The building is fully preserved and is looked after by the Heimatverein Weissacher Tal (local heritage association), which has about 210 members from the valley's three municipalities.
Inside you can see the historic living room, sleeping chamber, a working historic kitchen, bakehouse, linen weaving room, barn with hayloft, cowshed, pigsty and a cider cellar. In the former storeroom the wheelwright, cooper, turner, stonemason and blacksmith have their workshops; the attic holds, among other things, the shoemaker's and tailor's workshops and a schoolroom. Daily life in the first half of the 20th century is thus made vivid.
The property includes a cottage garden laid out after historical models and a traditional vineyard. On special experience days tools are demonstrated, and cooking, weaving and washing are done as they were a hundred years ago. Together with the Pädagogische Hochschule Ludwigsburg (teacher training college) and a nature park school, discovery tours for children and young people were also developed.
