About the museum
First plans for a municipal museum in Moosburg date back to 1918. In 1922 the town council decided to set up a district museum and to acquire several historical objects; in 1936 an extensive weapons collection from Landshut was added. In 1937 headmaster Ludwig Weh set up two rooms in the town hall as a museum.
After the plundering at the end of the war in 1945, the historian August Alckens reopened the museum in the town hall in 1958 and led it until 1983. Since 1975 the collections have been housed in the former convent girls' school built in 1866 on Kastulusplatz. Headmaster Wilhelm Braun (1986–2005) and Bernhard Kerscher (2005–2022) were succeeded in 2022 by Michael Kerscher as head of the museum.
The collection ranges from prehistory and early history through town history to trades, crafts, agriculture and folk art.
