Special exhibition in the Heimatmuseum with handmade pieces such as knitted, crocheted and carved objects.
The museum preserves the history of Geithain and its surroundings. A local history room was only set up at Chemnitzer Straße 22 for the town's 800th anniversary in 1986, although individual citizens had been collecting antiquities since around 1900. After reunification the city bought the dilapidated house and the neighboring house No. 20, had both restored, and enlarged the exhibition space.
The two connected stone houses from the 16th and 17th centuries survived the great town fires of 1670 and 1700; for a long time weavers of linen lived here. Today the permanent exhibition across two floors covers the founding of the town, self-government, Geithain as a garrison town for two hundred years, marksmen's traditions, lime and brick production, pharmacy history, crafts and Geithain enamelware.
Highlights include a black kitchen from around 1580, a loom, the old town hall clockwork and archaeological finds from the construction of the A 72 motorway. The museum garden with a wild-herb spiral and a terrace serves children's programs and events.
