The exhibition commemorates Dr Ernst Bamberger (1885–1941) with photographs and objects from his life, accompanied by songs of the time and background information.
The local history museum Hohenwestedt has been housed in the Burmesterhaus since 1927, a craftsman's house from the late 18th century where a small farm was also once run. The listed building was fully restored between 1983 and 1986 and refitted according to modern museum-education principles.
The extensive collection goes back to the teacher Hans Wilhelm Sierck, who started it in 1910 and later led the museum. Its thematic focus is the lives and work of people in a church village on the central Holstein geest ridge into the 20th century.
The house regularly hosts exhibitions on art, cultural history and regional history. A virtual tour makes the upper floors accessible to visitors who cannot climb stairs. The museum is run by the Museumsverein Hohenwestedt e. V. (museum association).
Admission is free.
The ground floor is accessible via a ramp at the side entrance; the upper and attic floors can be viewed through a virtual tour on a screen on the ground floor.
