About the museum

The local history museum in Lackenhäuser, a district of Neureichenau in the Bavarian Forest, was set up in the 1960s on the suggestion of school principal Heinrich Pollak, in the annex of the Hochwaldhalle. According to the Niederbayern-Wiki, it has existed since 1962.

Three rooms hold loans from families in Lackenhäuser, Klafferstraß and Riedelsbach. The main room shows tools for farming and grain harvest, from the wooden plow and horse harness to the flail, as well as flour and baking troughs, bread baskets and many household items carved from a single piece of wood, such as bowls, plates and spoons.

The farmhouse parlor (Bauernstube) with a Herrgottswinkel (corner with a crucifix and devotional pictures), a canopy bed, a child's cradle and a blue-painted cupboard with the Rosenberger diamond pattern typical of the region conveys life on the land. In the spinning room (Spinnstube), the path from flax processing to woven linen is shown, with flax brake, spinning wheels and a loom.

Permanent exhibition

• Bäuerliches Leben im Bayerischen Wald – Three rooms with farming tools, baking troughs, a farmhouse parlor and a spinning room show the everyday life of the Waldler (Bavarian Forest folk) in earlier times.
