About the museum
The Langsdorf local history museum was set up in 1980 by the Obst- und Gartenbauverein Langsdorf (fruit and garden society), which itself dates back to 1881. It was in the basement of the Volkshalle (community hall) in the Langsdorf district of Lich and preserved artifacts from village life over the past hundred years.
The collection included rural and craft tools, a shoemaker’s workshop, objects from school and household, and items relating to the local cigar-making industry and club life. Special pieces were parts of an old church tower clock, a historic ice machine and a working loom. Photographs of old houses, dialect poems and documentation on the Jewish community during the Nazi era rounded out the display.
According to the association, as of October 2026 a return to the former rooms in the Volkshalle basement is probably not possible; the association is looking for a new solution. The association still hands out local history books.
