About the museum

The Heimatmuseum Magstadt is housed in the Old Town Hall on the market square, a renovated half-timbered building from the 16th century. It is run by the municipality of Magstadt and the Heimatgeschichtsverein Magstadt 1983 e. V. (local history association).

The exhibition presents developments and events in the town's history. Maps and sketches explain the area's geological features; pottery shards, stone tools and finds from Alemannic graves document early settlement. Old implements tell of work in weaving workshops and quarries, in the fields and forests, and in some 20 other trades.

A large collection of historical cameras, film projectors, radios, record players, radiograms, and television and telephone sets shows earlier multimedia technology. The career of Magstadt-born racing driver Christian Lautenschlager can be seen in moving images. A larger room is used for changing exhibitions.
