About the museum
The foundation was laid by schoolchildren who, during local history lessons in 1974, brought along tools from their grandparents' time. After targeted collecting, the museum opened in 1981 in ten rooms of the listed former Catholic schoolhouse. Five years later, the old outbuilding was converted for the exhibition.
The permanent exhibition shows village life around 1900, with house and farm, rural craftspeople and their workshops, such as wheelwrights, coopers, and shoemakers. Archives and illustrations document the history of Neunkirchen in the Kurpfalz (Electoral Palatinate). Models of the castles Minneburg and Stolzeneck, as well as ground finds, illustrate local history. The South Moravian parlor (Südmährer-Stube) commemorates the expellees from the four sponsor communities; the outbuilding houses agriculture, the stonemason and brickmaker crafts, and a forestry collection. The museum is run by the Heimat- und Museumsverein Neunkirchen (local heritage and museum association).
