About the museum
The core of the complex is a half-timbered residential house whose timber was dated by dendrochronology to 1455; it is one of the oldest known half-timbered houses in the Rems-Murr district. A large barn was added in 1542, and a smaller one in 1767, which was probably originally a sheep barn. The farmstead had already been divided by 1629; today the main house is roughly a quarter owned by the city, and both barns belong entirely to the city of Weinstadt.
The foundation of the collection is the private collection of Paul Hekeler, a mail carrier and honorary citizen of Endersbach, who began gathering it in the 1920s. In 1972 it became publicly accessible as a heritage room in the old school building. After years of voluntary development work, the core holdings on rural living and working life of the 18th and 19th centuries moved to the Pflaster 14 farmstead in 2008; a friends' association founded in 2006 supports the museum both in spirit and financially.
The tour leads through staged living rooms with furniture from the 18th to 20th centuries, a section on textile crafts from flax to the loom, themes of household and crafts, and into the barns with agricultural machinery, carriages, sleds and wine-growing equipment. A vaulted cellar and the little Museumsstüble (museum parlor) serve events and offer a place to unwind after tours.
