About the museum

The museum's foundation was laid by Eugen Reinhard, a local historian from Kleinheppach, who from 1928 collected archaeological finds in the fields around the village. In 1974 this private collection became a small museum, set up in what was then the town hall of Kleinheppach.

After the collector's death, his daughter-in-law Erika Reinhard looked after the holdings. Today the museum is run by the municipality of Korb together with the Archäologie und Heimatkunde association (archaeology and local history), founded in 2009. When the old town hall was demolished in 2018, the collection moved into the newly built Dorfgemeinschaftshaus (village community center) on Schulstraße, where it reopened in September 2021.

Around 6,000 objects are on display: tools and pottery from the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic periods, including arrowheads, scrapers, and axes, a hand axe from the time of the Neanderthals, and a mammoth tusk. There are also finds from Roman times and the Middle Ages, minerals, rocks, and fossils, as well as folk and craft items from the 18th to 20th centuries. Since 2022, excavation finds from the former wine press house of Kleinheppach have been on view as well.
