About the museum
Since 1916 the Schredlhaus in the center of Schliersee has served as a local history museum. The listed log house dates from the Middle Ages: investigations in 2016 dated the building to 1447, and a single wooden wall even to 1406. The natural stone facade belonged to the former County of Hohenwaldeck; in the 15th century a farmhouse was added directly to the original building.
The collection is not arranged in display cases but in the former living rooms of the house. What survives are beamed and panel ceilings, a barrel vault and the soot-blackened smoke kitchen (Raachkuchä) with its household utensils. Costumes from the 17th to the 20th century are shown, as well as artful glasses from the Schliersee glassworks made between 1870 and 1914. In the attic are agricultural implements, tools for linen making and fishing, and a scaled-down replica of an alpine hut that shows the life of the Holzknechte (timber workers).
The museum is looked after by the Heimatfreunde Schliersee. To mark the end of the year, they invite people to a gathering at the house on December 31, where the Schliersee tower trumpeters play; in winter, the Museumsweihnacht (museum Christmas event) takes place in front of the museum.
