About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Simbach am Inn was set up in 1912 as a district museum in the tower rooms of the town hall. Since May 1987 it has been housed in the former rent and finance office, a listed building from 1834. There, the collections were reorganized according to scholarly principles together with the Förderkreis (support circle) and the Landesstelle für nichtstaatliche Museen (state office for non-state museums).
The permanent exhibition is dedicated to the history of the town, from its first mention in 927 through its destruction in 1743 and the railway construction of 1870/71, to industrialization, the Inn with its bridges and floods, and the Simbach flood of 2016. Further sections show costume and gold bonnets (Goldhauben), the town's inventors and pioneers, the railway and border town with 150 years of railway history, sacred art, a chronicle from 1864, and a gallery of around 50 works by the Simbach-born artist Josef Karl Nerud.
The museum also presents special exhibitions several times a year.
