About the museum

With the opening of the line from Berlin via Angermünde to Pasewalk and the branch line to Stettin, Pasewalk was connected to the Prussian railway network in 1863. At that time a rectangular engine shed with three entrances, a turntable, a water station and carriage and goods sheds were built. The present semicircular shed went into operation in January 1896 with twelve radiating tracks; the water tower had already been inaugurated in 1894. Because Pasewalk was an important junction between several lines, the shed was expanded to 18 tracks in 1906 and to 22 tracks in 1925; in 1932, 49 steam locomotives were stationed here.

Since 2003, the association Lokschuppen Pomerania e. V., founded at that time, has operated the railway experience center; in 2013 the site received the Nordkurier venue award of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. Today the Eisenbahnhistorie & Touristik gGmbH runs the grounds, with a museum, event rooms and overnight accommodation.

On the roughly 40,000-square-meter site, the railway technology exhibition shows nostalgic vehicles, steam locomotives and radio technology; these include historic buildings, the water tower and a working turntable. The large playground and the rail bike rides (Draisinenfahrten) are especially popular with families.
