About the museum
The Heimat- und Stadtmuseum (local and city museum) of Seßlach is housed in a listed historic building in the old town. The building was erected between 1672 and 1690 as a grain storage loft for the Würzburg Juliusspital. In 1853, the school community acquired it and set up a schoolhouse there; today it is therefore also called the "Alte Schule" (Old School).
The rooms tell the story of the town. Two rooms show the town's development from the 9th to the 19th century and emphasize the defensive character of the town, which is still surrounded by a town wall, with large photographs of the fortifications as well as historical weapons and uniform pieces, among other things. An office room recalls the Würzburg prince-bishops as lords of the town; an 18th-century record cabinet (Repositurschrank) once stored the administrative files.
Further areas are devoted to living and crafts, associations, religious history, postwar living, refugees, and changes to the town's structure through incorporations. A mobile hospital stretcher refers to the hospital, which still operates today as a retirement home.
