About the museum
The idea for a local history museum arose in 2017 in the Verein Kultur im Schlosspark (culture in the castle park association); in 2018 a museum group formed around the local historian Hans Aigner. In 2019 the group decided to make the Isar the central theme; in 2021 the municipality bought the old Raiffeisen building and resolved to integrate the museum into the new town hall. The project was funded partly from LEADER funds, and the exhibition was designed by a planning office together with the museum group.
After more than 4,300 volunteer working hours, the museum “Mittendrin im Isartal” opened on June 30, 2024. The permanent exhibition covers the river landscape, a settlement history of more than 7,000 years, and the influence of railway and motorway on the valley. Five themed areas – castle, inn and brewery, post and railway, church, municipality, and education – are presented with objects, media tables and audio stations.
The museum is complemented by a historic town walk with information boards at notable places in the municipality. For children there is a discovery tour with the figure Isaria, an Isar water nymph (Nixe).
