About the museum
The Heimatstube Neulewin is located on the edge of the village toward Neubarnim, in a small half-timbered house from the late 19th century. Larger farmers in the Oderbruch had such central-hall houses built for their day laborers when many 18th-century settler houses fell into disrepair; two families shared a kitchen, a chamber, and a living room here.
When the derelict house stood empty in 1987, the idea of a Heimatstube arose. From October 1988 it was renovated and furnished with much unpaid help from the village, and in September 1989 the Heimatstube opened. Since 1996 the Heimatverein has looked after the house, keeps the opening hours, and organizes guided tours; the municipality covers the operating costs. In 2018 the Heimatstube received the Kulturerbesiegel (cultural heritage seal).
On display are furniture, household items, and work tools that vividly show the lives of simple townspeople and farm laborers and the hardships of housework. There is also information on the village's unusual wartime history, when it was part of a bridgehead.
