About the museum
The museum in Stare Łysogórki is a branch of the Muzeum Pamiątek 1. Armii Wojska Polskiego oraz Dziejów Ziemi Mieszkowickiej (Museum of Memorabilia of the 1st Polish Army and of the History of the Mieszkowice Land), an organisational unit of the Mieszkowice commune. It was established in the 1960s in a building next to the war cemetery of soldiers of the 1st Polish Army in Siekierki. During the crossing of the Oder in 1945 an exhumation office was located here. The institution was modernised in 2014–2016.
The exhibition presents souvenirs connected with the crossing of the Oder in April 1945. Visitors can see original uniforms and equipment of soldiers of the 1st Polish Army, the equipment of a German and a Soviet soldier, documents, decorations, photographs and urns with soil from the battlefields of the Second World War. The collection also includes valuable firearms from the war period and rocket projectiles, katyusha and andriusha rockets. In the cellar an exhumation office from 1945 has been reconstructed.
On the first floor there is an ethnographic exhibition, and in front of the building stands an IS-2 tank monument, belonging to the 4th Pomeranian Heavy Tank Regiment. The museum is part of the Rejon Pamięci Narodowej nad Odrą (National Remembrance Area on the Oder).
