About the museum

The IBA-Terrassen are one of around 30 projects of the Fürst-Pückler-Land International Building Exhibition, which accompanied the transformation of the Lusatian post-mining landscape between 2000 and 2010. The minimalist complex consists of three cube-shaped buildings linked by terraces, located between the landing stage, vineyard and viewpoint at Lake Großräschen.

In the first building, the visitor centre presented the exhibition “12 Questions – 12 Answers”, which explains the region's transformation: from open-cast lignite mining through preserved buildings and the vineyard on a former mining site to new housing by the lake. House 1 is also planned to house a restaurant and a multipurpose room in future.

Highlights

  • Three cube-shaped buildings with terraces above Lake Großräschen
  • Exhibition “12 Questions – 12 Answers”
  • Vineyard on a former open-cast mining site
  • Bistro with a view of the lake

Permanent exhibition

  • 12 Fragen – 12 Antworten – The exhibition in House 1 answers twelve questions about the region's structural change and shows mining history, preserved buildings, the vineyard and new residential districts. It is not accessible during the renovation.
