About the museum
The Kulturhistorisches Museum in Neuerkirch documents agricultural tools, machines, old crafts and village living culture of past times in the Hunsrück. Its core goes back to the Hunsrückmuseum in Simmern and has been supplemented with many objects from the region. It is housed in a residential house and a former farm building belonging to the village municipality.
In the residential house, the parlor, sleeping chamber and kitchen are furnished true to the original. Upstairs, the exhibition explains regional half-timbered construction and shows a hairdresser's parlor, Thonet chairs, a small schoolroom corner and historical coffee service. In the former barn are workshops for a blacksmith, wheelwright, shoemaker, tailor, carpenter, basket weaver and other trades, as well as equipment for processing flax, spinning wheels and looms.
Special features are a working coffee roaster by the firm Palm of Kastellaun, on which fresh museum coffee is roasted and sold on selected dates, an exhibition on radio and television technology, and an extensive beekeeping department in the attic.
