About the museum
The Lichtermuseum grew out of a private collection and opened in 1998 in the Bürgerhaus of the Walldürn district of Wettersdorf. The building formerly served as a school and town hall.
On the upper floor, nearly 2,000 objects are on view: lanterns, lamps, candlesticks, wick trimmers, candle extinguisher caps, rush-light holders, tinderboxes and wax tapers. They show almost completely how people produced light before electricity, and they also tell of the simple, frugal life of earlier generations.
A talk with objects and a guided tour are offered; information material and brochures are available.
