About the museum
The museum is founded on the private collection of Walldürn honorary citizen Oscar Stalf, who gathered ivory works over about five decades. He handed it over to the Catholic Church Fund of Walldürn as a foundation in honour of the Holy Blood miracle, to which the pilgrimage town owes its importance.
The collection is housed in modernly designed rooms of the former Augustinian hermitage right next to the pilgrimage basilica, in the lower level of the parish hall. On display are carvings from the 13th to the 20th century, mostly with religious but also secular motifs, along with furniture with ivory inlays. The museum opens seasonally on two afternoons a week; guided tours, including a themed tour on female figures, are possible all year round on request.
