About the museum
The museum commemorates Peter Huber, known as the "Müllner Peter" (Miller Peter), who grew up in Sachrang in the Priental valley as the son of the miller of Aschach. He received an unusually good education for a rural resident, probably in Weyarn, and then returned to his village. He lived in a period of transition between late Baroque and the Enlightenment, and as an educated subject he mediated between the rural population, the Counts of Preysing and the insurgent Tyroleans.
The Müllner Peter worked as a miller and farmer, as a healer with his own recipe books, as a musician and as village head. After the death of his wife, he rebuilt the derelict Ölbergkapelle (Mount of Olives chapel) with neighbors and revived the pilgrimage. Later he became a character in a novel and, through a film adaptation, a "Filmstar" (film star).
The museum association was founded in 2001, and in 2002 the museum opened in the old schoolhouse. The tour follows the different areas of the Müllner Peter's life; these include his preserved writing book, a medicinal herb garden and the connection to the Ölberg chapel. The museum was renovated in 2016, and each year there is a changing themed exhibition.
