About the museum
The forge on Mühlbacher Hauptstraße was built by Melchior Bauer in 1863. In a village with many stonemasons, the blacksmith was an indispensable trade partner: he made and sharpened the stonecutters' tools and shod the horses.
Reinhard Moser (1929–2015) was the last blacksmith in Mühlbach, in the fifth generation of his family, and worked in the workshop until he was 80 years old. In 2017 the city of Eppingen acquired the building.
With the support of the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Mühlbach (local heritage association), the forge has since been presented as a cultural monument. It complements the nearby Steinhauermuseum Mühlbach and can be visited together with it on a guided tour.
