About the museum

The Museum des Teltow was founded in autumn 1994 and is run by the Teltow-Fläming district. It occupies the former village school of Wünsdorf, built in 1898, and explicitly sees itself as a small house with a clear profile.

Its collection and research focus is the history and natural history of the northern part of the district. The Teltow, a cultural landscape between the Nuthe, Dahme and Spree rivers and the Baruth glacial valley, is first mentioned in a document as early as 1232. The museum shows how the metropolis of Berlin has shaped its southern surroundings for centuries, for example through crafts and trade, industry, large housing estates, transport and the military.

The permanent exhibition “Der Teltow. Geschichte einer Region” explains how the landscape came into being, which people, buildings and wars shaped it, and tells of everyday life, festivals and associations in earlier times. It is complemented by a natural history section on local wildlife and a museum garden with trees and woody plants. The museum library and archive can be used by appointment; publications on regional history can be purchased at the museum.
