About the museum
The Zossen school museum opened on April 25, 2002. The idea came from retired teacher Gudrun Haase, who together with former colleagues from the retired teachers' club of the Dabendorf school built an exhibition on school history. The town of Zossen initially provided a room in the town library, on the upper floor of a half-timbered house from 1746 that was built as a preacher's house and for a long time also served as a school. The operator became the Heimatverein "Alter Krug" (local heritage association).
On March 12, 2016, the museum moved into the renovated, listed half-timbered house at Kirchplatz 7 and gained considerably more space. The permanent exhibition is titled "School Through the Ages."
On display are primers, reading books, exercise books, drawings, old school desks and many other objects that illustrate school life over more than a hundred years. Added to these are teaching aids for science and polytechnic lessons, plus audiovisual equipment from the 20th century. Since 2023 the museum has also held exercise books and textbooks from the estate of a Zossen merchant family.
