Cabinet exhibition of non-representational works from the district's art collection, which work with geometric forms such as square, circle and triangle.
The Kreismuseum in Oberfahlheim, a district of Nersingen, opened in 1999 and is dedicated to contemporary art from the region. It is run jointly by the district of Neu-Ulm and the Sparkassenstiftung (savings bank foundation) Museum für bildende Kunst im Landkreis Neu-Ulm.
It is housed in a brewhouse built in 1785 for the Elchingen monastery. The neoclassical cross gable shapes its exterior; inside, a postmodern, bright blue staircase provides contrast, and in the basement the historic brewery cellar impresses with its raw brick vaulting.
On the first floor, three exhibitions a year present the current art scene. On the upper floor, smaller cabinet exhibitions show changing themes, including artist retrospectives and cultural-historical shows. The permanent exhibition traces the development of art in the region over about twenty years.
Admission is free.
