About the museum
The museum goes back to the collector Hein Meyer, who acquired the historic Old Town Hall on Neue Straße in Bremervörde. He had the ground floor converted into bright exhibition rooms to show his picture collection to the public. The house has been open to visitors since 2021.
The focus is on Otto Tetjus Tügel (1892–1973), who saw himself as a painter-poet. Born in Hamburg, he lived and worked, among other places, in Worpswede and most recently around Bremervörde, where he also died. The collection now includes more than 200 of his pictures, a large part of which are on show in the rooms. They are supplemented by further exhibits and regular new acquisitions.
Besides the regular opening days, the house holds regular discussion groups; on Open Monument Day (Tag des offenen Denkmals) it opens with extended hours.
