About the museum
The Museumsscheune in the hamlet of Bredenbeck near Reith, in the municipality of Brest in the Stade district, is devoted to rural life, with a focus on potato growing. The collection goes back to 1992, when several residents of Reith rented the Michaelis family's barn to store agricultural machines and tools they had collected.
On June 14, 1994, the Museumsverein Samtgemeinde Harsefeld e. V. (museum association) was founded. Hans Prigge has led the association since its founding; he looks after the barn and designs the exhibitions.
Today the barn displays about 220 inventoried items on around 300 square meters, from the 19th century to around 1960. These include peat sledges, washing machines, honey presses, horse halters, wheelbarrows, beehives and, above all, implements and machines for potato growing. Visits are possible by registration with the chairman, who is happy to guide guests personally through the collection.
