About the museum
The museum in the Breitscheid district of Erdbach was long known as Museum Zeitsprünge and is now called Erdbachium – Zentrum für Kalk, Kelten und Kultur. It remained closed for over three years because of COVID-19 restrictions. In late autumn 2024 it opened again for two Sundays; since April 2025 it has been open regularly. The municipality of Breitscheid supports the house, and a volunteer museum director and other active members shape it.
The break was used for a redesign. The geology exhibition makes the region's natural history tangible with minerals and fossils, and new information panels explain them in two rooms. These include above all fossils from the Devonian period. A third room commemorates the Celts, who settled between Breitscheid and Erdbach more than 2,000 years ago; some of the finds come from excavations of the 1880s at the Steinkammern (stone chambers), two natural caves.
A large diorama tells the Erdbach legend of the dwarves who made the water disappear into the ground. As a second mainstay, changing special exhibitions are developing, primarily for model railway and model-building enthusiasts. In front of the entrance is a freely accessible herb garden, and on the stairs a small flea market supports the museum.
