Tractors and machines from the decade in which motorization fundamentally changed farming in the heath.
May 2, 2026 – November 1, 2026
Exhibition about Kasper (the German Punch) and his fellow characters and the development of hand puppet theater, accompanied by performances and workshops.
The Museumsdorf Hösseringen grew out of civic engagement: in March 1975 residents of the Uelzen district founded the association Landwirtschaftsmuseum Lüneburger Heide am Landtagsplatz zu Hösseringen, which still runs the museum today with substantial support from the district.
Between 1977 and 1993 the site largely took on its present form. Most of the now 30 buildings were moved here from the surrounding region and grouped into a clustered village and a single farmstead, the Brümmerhof. A village pond, wattle fences, cottage gardens, fields with old crop varieties, a heathland area with a sheep barn and a mixed forest complete the picture.
The furnished houses show living and working between 1600 and 1950. Themed exhibitions are devoted to beekeeping, sheep farming, flax processing, blacksmithing, baking and threshing; the exhibition “Steinreiche Heide” explores the use of glacial boulders and includes a megalithic tomb. Special exhibitions on the cultural history of the heath change every year in the exhibition hall.
In 2010 a new entrance building with a museum shop and seminar rooms was added. The collection comprises around 71,000 objects; some 30,000 visitors come to the museum village each year, which hosts numerous market and activity days during the season.
