Musik-Museum Beeskow
Collection of self-playing musical instruments from 1848 to 1927 at Burg Beeskow – with regular guided tours during which the automatic instruments play.
About the museum
The core of the museum is the private collection of Thomas Jansen, who from the 1980s gathered and restored mechanical musical instruments. Until 2013 it was on display in the Musikmuseum in the Imgenbroich district of Monschau in the Eifel, and was among the largest private collections of its kind.
In 2015 the collection moved to Beeskow, where it was initially exhibited in a small museum in the town center until April 2018. In May 2018 it found its present home at Burg Beeskow. The Förderverein Musikmuseum Beeskow (friends' association) was founded in 2014 for acquisition, care, and operation, and runs the museum today.
On display are the most important types of automatic musical instruments from the period between 1848 and 1927: small music boxes with pinned cylinders, reproducing pianos that play back the performances of well-known pianists, tavern instruments, and a large orchestrion. In addition there are phonographs and gramophones as well as several thousand music rolls, including over 3,000 for the Welte-Mignon and Aeolian Duo-Art systems alone.
