Annual exhibition 2026 on the themes of regional music, hearing impairment and silence: sound waves become physically perceptible, and there is the sound installation “Lean@me” by Wolfram Spyra. On view until the end of 2026.
About the museum
The Museum Oder-Spree has been housed at Beeskow Castle for around 65 years. The castle was first documented in 1316, has been extensively restored since 1991, and now serves as a cultural and educational center. It is the only regional museum in Brandenburg devoted to contemporary everyday culture and its background.
The collection of some 14,800 objects suffered during wars and crises. Earlier directors set their own priorities, such as animal and plant dioramas or the Australian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, who was born in the region. After 1989/90, topics such as avenues and roadside trees and the fate of the refugees of 1945 were added.
Today the museum deliberately collects the present. Each year, a new theme important to the region is chosen, and authors and journalists gather stories from the district on it. These appear in the Kursbuch Oder-Spree and form the basis of the annual exhibition, in which current everyday objects stand alongside historical collection pieces.
