About the museum

Schloss Wiesenfelden has been documented since the early 12th century and passed through many noble families over time. In 1981, Beate and Hubert Weinzierl acquired the estate; since 1983 it has housed the Umweltzentrum (environmental center), one of Bavaria's oldest environmental education facilities. Since 2008 it has been supported by a friends' association and the Beate und Hubert Weinzierl Stiftung (foundation).

The natural history museum is part of this learning site. In two rooms it presents the pond landscape around Wiesenfelden with its two nature reserves, using specimens, pictures, and sound and text stations, and it focuses on the beaver: a rebuilt beaver lodge with a beaver family and the story of the animal's return to Bavaria form the centerpiece.

A media station with a touchscreen lets twelve native fish tell their own stories. In the staircase of the castle, a photo exhibition also shows village life in earlier times and the history of the castle's owners.
