Rürupsmühle
Mill farm with a water-wheel-driven mill, bakehouse, and half-timbered houses in Löhne-Gohfeld, open on event days.
About the museum
The Rürupsmühle on the Mittelbach in Löhne-Gohfeld is first mentioned in 1587. An interior overshot water wheel drives the grinding gear; the water is dammed in a mill pond. It is considered the only mill in the Herford district that is still operated by water power.
In December 1980 the nonprofit association "Vom Korn zum Brot" (From Grain to Bread) was founded and began restoring the mill in 1982. Volunteers brought further historic buildings onto the site: a bakehouse from 1841 from Vlotho-Valdorf, a hall house from 1727 from Oetinghausen with an open hearth fire, and a half-timbered granary from Bennien near Spenge, which was rebuilt in the late 1990s.
On about ten event days a year, the association shows the path from grain to finished bread – from grinding in the mill to baking in the wood-fired oven. Goats and chickens also live on the farm.
