About the museum
The local history room goes back to an interest group that came together in Gielow in June 1994 to collect the farmhouse and farm equipment of the area. As early as November of the same year there was a first exhibition in the rooms of the former municipal administration; in 1995 the local history association “Uns Heimatstuf” was entered in the register as a registered association with eleven members.
In the following years the collection moved several times: first to permanent rooms on August-Bebel-Straße, later to rooms in the school building, and at times there were also exhibition rooms in the Liepen water castle. In 2004 a herb garden was created, and in 2011 an English-style cottage garden was added on the church grounds, which has been shown every year since on the Open Gardens Day.
In 2021 the association had to leave the school rooms and built new exhibition rooms in the community hall, which officially opened in March 2022. The exhibition is divided into rooms such as the old schoolroom, the kitchen and the living room, and shows objects mainly from the first two-thirds of the 20th century. Since 2024 the local history room opens only by prior appointment.
