About the museum
The Bavarian Costume Association leased the vacant parish property in Holzhausen in 2004 and brought in the first objects from dissolved costume clubs. After about 20 years of collecting, more than 13,000 objects are recorded in a database. The storage depot went into operation at the turn of the year 2010/2011 and, since 2015, has no longer been part of the tour because of the climate control.
After a good two years of renovation, the expanded museum was blessed and opened on September 9, 2023. It was designed by the agency "Atelier und Friends." The tour begins in the cinema room with a film, leads through the history room, the Gründerkammerl (founders' room), the customs room and the dance and music room, and ends in scenes with a festival parade, dance floor and village fair. A gallery in the attic shows historical G'wänder (traditional Bavarian dress), bodices and other pieces.
