About the museum
The Vorpommersches Kartoffelmuseum was founded on March 30, 2000, by the structural support association "Trebeltal" e. V. in Gransebieth, in the building of a former testing station for seed potatoes. In June 2001 it moved to the Tribsees association house; since May 2009 it has been located in the historic center of Tribsees, where the church, the local history museum and the tourist information are also found.
The exhibition explores how the potato came from South America to Europe and covers its history, botany, cultivation and use. On display are old agricultural machinery, historical films and "real" tubers in around 50 varieties from breeding and conservation collections, which are newly sourced every autumn. Allotment gardeners can get advice on cultivation and pest control.
