About the museum
The Archaeological Museum of Astros is housed in a 19th-century building that was erected as the school building of the Karytsiotis School. The Second National Assembly of Astros was held in its courtyard in 1823. The building was handed over by the Municipality of Astros to the Ephorate of Antiquities and, after repairs and conservation, was converted in 1985 into the museum of Kynouria by the ephor of antiquities Th. Spyropoulos.
The large courtyard has been laid out as an archaeological park and exhibition space. The collections include architectural elements from the mansion of Herodes Atticus at the site called “Eva” in Dolianoi, ceramics mainly from cemeteries of the Hellenistic period, small finds and coins from various areas of Kynouria, and inscriptions.
The museum is currently closed to the public.
