About the museum
The Historic Mansion of Lazaros Kountouriotis was built in the late 18th century, in a period of naval and economic prosperity for Hydra. Lazaros Kountouriotis was an important political figure before and during the Greek Revolution. The house has operated as a museum since 2001 and belongs to the National Historical Museum.
On the ground floor the rooms are presented as they were handed over by the last owners and donors, with few changes. The upper floor houses a collection of folk art with examples of Modern Greek art of the 18th and 19th century, and exhibition rooms with works by Panagiotis Tetsis. In the basement a picture gallery displays paintings by Periklis Vyzantios and his son Konstantinos (Dikos) Vyzantios.
