About the museum

The red house at the junction of Anthimou Gazi and Vlachava streets, known to the people of Volos as the “House with the Rose”, operates as a museum and art gallery of the painter Chrysoula Zogia, who was born in Volos and died there in 1992. By her will she donated her house to the Municipality of Volos, together with about 250 of her works and her personal objects, so that it would become a museum. It has been open to the public since 1994.

The site keeps the order that the painter herself gave it, in order to present both her work and her character. In the house are around 200 works representing her development: portraits from the period of her apprenticeship, landscapes, old mansions and depictions of church interiors.

Visitors are also drawn by the furnishing of the house, the countless notes of the owner that are found everywhere, photographs and personal objects, hundreds of painted bottles and other elements that reveal her distinctive personality. The exterior of the house is decorated by her own hand.
