About the museum
The museum is housed in the Giorgio de Chirico Art Centre in Volos. The centre takes its name from the great Italian painter who was born in the town. The permanent collection of the collector Alekos Damtsas is displayed on the centre’s three floors.
The collection comprises about 500 works from the major artistic movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. Most of the donation consists of works by Greek painters of the 19th and early 20th centuries. There are also prints, maps and documents on the region, works by Greek printmakers and works by artists from Volos, Magnesia and Thessaly.
