About the museum
The Railway Museum of Thessaly is located on the upper floor of the Volos railway station. The station, designed by the engineer Evaristo De Chirico, has remained in the same form since 1882, when the construction of the railway network by the Thessaly Railway Company gave impetus to the development of the city. The museum was founded in 2006.
Old photographs, uniforms, telegraphs, 19th-century wooden ticket offices, tools, station clocks, time recorders and old measuring instruments are displayed in the showcases. The museum also has archives, documents and rare books on railway architecture, as well as the drawings and watercolours by De Chirico and his collaborators for the Volos – Lechonia – Milies line, the well-known little train of Pelion.
